Season after season, Capriccio Stravagante has enjoyed a special relationship with listeners, from specialized as well as mainstream audiences. Since the very beginning, this intimate relationship has been generated worldwide, in both live and recorded performances.
This phenomenon is due to the fact that Skip Sempé and the musicians of Capriccio Stravagante have single-handedly aroused a new interpretive curiosity in the world of Renaissance and Baroque music. Their way of listening and thinking musically has become a worldwide model for the youngest generation of promising performers. That which is specific and irresistible in Capriccio Stravagante’s music making is their boldness, dynamism, togetherness and accuracy of gesture. This healthy atmosphere for performing and listening is catalyzed by Skip Sempé and the ever-evolving team of musicians, in every rehearsal, every performance and every recording.
For their twentieth anniversary, Capriccio Stravagante received multi-year support from private foundation funding for the years 2006 - 2010. The business plan was crafted in collaboration with the London and San Francisco offices of Brakeley Ltd., and the initial grant was awarded by Early Music America’s Affiliate Program. This generous funding created the necessary momentum for increased management development as well as co-productions for the recordings of Capriccio Stravagante on the Paradizo label. Further funding for Capriccio Stravagante was recently initiated by the Institut de France -Fondation Simone et Cino del Duca.
Previous funding for strategic concert appearances and recording projects includes grants from The New York Foundation for the Arts and The Fund for US Artists at International Festivals and Exhibitions, with collaborative funding through international government agencies such as l’Association Française d’Action Artistique and the Conseil des Arts du Québec.
We are currently seeking further private, public and corporate support which will further develop and insure Skip Sempé and Capriccio Stravagante’s effectiveness as strategic creators and leaders to further enhance the quality and growth of creation and presentation in Renaissance and Baroque repertoire.
Our goal for Capriccio Stravagante is 200,000 Euros annually.
Our goal for The Capriccio Stravagante Renaissance Orchestra is 250,000 Euros annually.
Over a 5 year period (2008-2012), funding at this level will insure Capriccio Stravagante a lasting position among the pre-eminent concert and recording ensembles in the world.
